We are Script East Midlands.

Who we are

Script East Midlands is a Nottingham-based writer-led organisation, supporting scriptwriters based in the East Midlands, UK.

If you live in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire or Rutland, and write for theatre, TV, film or audio, then we can help.

In early 2025 we were awarded project funding from Arts Council England to deliver an ambitious programme of activity, working with partners across the industry, including Curve (Leicester), In Good Company, Theatre503 and more.

Established in September 2024, we are serious about amplifying and elevating scriptwriting in our region.

What we offer

We have lots of regular opportunities: monthly writers groups, script swaps, online community and craft, workshops, professional mentoring, plus opportunities to boost your networks and showcase your writing. If you’re in need of script writing classes in the East Midlands, we’ve got you covered.

How we started

Founded by Nottingham playwright Hugh Dichmont, Script East Midlands was born both out of passion and frustration.

Hugh has always held a deep belief in the talent resident here in his home county, but wanted more community, craft-building and opportunities to share work. Beginning as a monthly Writers Group at Broadway Cinema, providing a much-needed space to share early drafts of scripts, Script East Midlands has since grown into much more, driven by a will to elevate and amplify the work of scriptwriting in Nottingham, Leicester, and beyond.

“My hope is for Script East Midlands to be a vehicle for optimism, joining the dots- between organisations, opportunities, and, crucially, the artists. The more power we give to creative people, the more great things will happen. That is our goal, and we have big plans.”
