Hugh Dichmont

Hugh Dichmont is an award-winning playwright and scriptwriter based in Nottingham. Hugh’s creative CV includes ★★★★★ dark comedy podcast ‘The Future History of the British Isles’, and plays at theatres across the UK, including Nottingham Playhouse, Theatre503, Old Red Lion, the Pleasance and The Vaults. In 2019 Hugh won the Bread & Roses Playwriting Award. In 2024 he was a finalist for the Channel 4 New Writers Scheme. In 2025 he was shortlisted for the Pears Short Film Fund.

With an astute eye for dialogue and structure, Hugh brings over a decade of experience in writing across forms and genres, working solo and in writing teams, finding personal angles to big stories and drama in the everyday.

With an MA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media, Hugh is also a highly experienced educator, who has mentored scriptwriters, delivered workshops, talks and courses over many years, for organisations including Nottingham Playhouse and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama (London).

Who it's for

Anyone can sign up to our mentoring. You can bring us a full draft of a script, or just an idea – or not even that!

During a free 20-minute consultation, we will develop a bespoke development plan with you, which, if you then sign up, will form the basis of your personalised mentorship from Script East Midlands.

After your mentoring has finished, you will almost certainly have a new draft of your script, but also a sense of what next: where to go, what to do, either with your current project, or looking forwards. 

Our job is to inspire you. To help you to see your own potential, and electrify you with possibilities.

The details

Our mentoring is designed to fit around your life, work and needs.

Signing up gives you six months to complete your Mentorship package, which consists of:

  • One-to-one mentoring from Hugh Dichmont

  • A bespoke six month development plan

  • Written and spoken notes on 3 drafts of your script

  • 3x one hour online (Zoom) meetings with Hugh

  • Actionable “to dos”

  • Suggested reading/watching for further personal development

  • Script strategy for future life of your project and/or personal scriptwriting growth

  • All of the above to be completed within your Mentorship package, done as quickly or slowly as you need, within the full six months

Pricing

Here, you’ll find our pricing for our mentoring and script development services.

  • Feature film/full-length stage play (up to 120 minutes): £600 (£480 Patreon Plus discount) 

  • TV pilot/one-act stage play/radio script (up to 60 minutes): £500 (£400 Patreon Plus discount)

  • TV Pilot (up to 30 minutes): £300 (£240 Patreon Plus discount)

After signing up for mentorship, you will then have a 50% discount for follow-up mentoring (25% if for a different script), to be redeemed within 12 months.
