Meet the mentorHugh Dichmont
Hugh Dichmont is an award-winning playwright and scriptwriter based in Nottingham. Hugh’s creative CV includes ★★★★★ dark comedy podcast ‘The Future History of the British Isles’, and plays at theatres across the UK, including Nottingham Playhouse, Theatre503, Old Red Lion, the Pleasance and The Vaults. In 2019 Hugh won the Bread & Roses Playwriting Award. In 2024 he was a finalist for the Channel 4 New Writers Scheme. In 2025 he was shortlisted for the Pears Short Film Fund.

With an astute eye for dialogue and structure, Hugh brings over a decade of experience in writing across forms and genres, working solo and in writing teams, finding personal angles to big stories and drama in the everyday.
With an MA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media, Hugh is also a highly experienced educator, who has mentored scriptwriters, delivered workshops, talks and courses over many years, for organisations including Nottingham Playhouse and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama (London).
