A bi-monthly meet-up for writers and actors in the East Midlands, taking place online via zoom, or in-person in Nottingham.

Writers Book your place

For writers it is a chance to:

  • Hear your entire script out loud, performed script-in-hand by actors

  • Connect with local actors to develop future collaboration possibilities

  • Grow your confidence and craft in scriptwriting

  • Receive feedback on your script & develop your own feedback skills

For actors and writers to attend, our Script Social is FREE. However, if you want to have your script performed, the cost is £10*.

HOW IT WORKS

A writer submits their script, the roles are cast, and during the session it is performed in its entirety by actors (script-in-hand). After the reading, assembled actors and writers give feedback on the piece, in a spirit of friendly support.

Each session ends with general social time for writers and actors to mix, chat and potentially forge new connections that could spark a fruitful collaboration.

  • Upon booking, please check your spam folder regularly for emails about the sessions.

  • Let us know if you have to cancel as there are limited spaces.

  • If you wish to share a script, email us.

Writers FAQ

  • Stage plays, TV drama or comedy scripts, film scripts or audio, of any length (up to 1 hour 45 minutes). They must be formatted correctly (Click HERE to download our formatting guide).

  • Book your ticket on our Eventbrite by clicking the button. If you want your script to be read, then follow up with an email to script@scripteastmids.co.uk

    If you are already a ScriptEM Member, we will just book your script in. If you aren’t a member, you can sign up, or pay a one-off £10 fee.

    Please note that your script might not necessarily be read in the next session, although we will always try to accommodate it as soon as possible.

  • We don’t print scripts out. A digital version of the script will be sent around. Actors need to have a suitable phone/tablet/laptop to read from during the session. As it is a table read, that shouldn’t be a hindrance.

  • No! If you are excited to see your writing performed, and keen to develop, then that's good enough for us.​

  • No, £10 is our flat fee for any script, regardless of length. However, the maximum length of script we will read is 1 hour 45 minutes.

  • Everyone is welcome at The Script Social. Our in-person sessions are in wheelchair-accessible spaces. If there is anything else we can do to help you feel comfortable and fully included, please let us know in advance of the session.

  • If you have a script to share, but prefer to receive feedback in a particular form (e.g. written rather than spoken), then that is absolutely fine – we can accommodate your needs. Just let us know in advance.

  • Yes! Please do! Your point of view, experiences, and presence are very much welcome. Our Script Social is a space to build your confidence, meet likeminded people and get inspired!

  • Sorry, no, apart from occasional special one-offs. We define the East Midlands as Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.

    All our confirmed dates are already up there, and you can book in for as many as you like. However, if you know you have to cancel for any reason, please get in touch so we can pass your space to someone else.

  • This session is more than a table-read: it is also a social space to be with likeminded people, and a chance to connect with local writers… who knows? It could lead to fruitful future collaborations. This is done informally at the end of the session, at the Broadway bar, or in breakout rooms if on Zoom.

  • We have already signed up a cohort of actors to be our Script Social Players: a group of dedicated performers who are keen to attend as many sessions as they are able. These writers have been recruited through a pre-existing local actors group, The Actors Workshop. Our Players cohort will be re-advertised Summer/Autumn next year.
