Script Swaps
Script Swaps is the chance to get anonymous one-to-one feedback on an early idea, short script or first draft. Pairing you up with an anonymous writer from our Script East Midlands community, you will exchange scripts, read at your leisure, then feed back to one another, facilitated by us – helping each other to push through that next draft.
ABOUT SCRIPT SWAPSScript Swaps is designed to offer some focused, but free, support for your scriptwriting idea or project, when it doesn’t quite fit in the Writers Group. As well as getting feedback on your work, it is also an opportunity to build your own script reading and editing skills, supporting a fellow writer to break new ground in their writing.
Script Swaps is designed to offer some focused, but free, support for your scriptwriting idea or project, when it doesn’t quite fit in the Writers Group. Script Swaps are for writers with any level of experience. All we ask is, if you are submitting a script, that you have followed a professional format. You can download our guide to format here.
Once you have signed up, and sent us your script, we pair you with another anonymous writer who is also up for a Script Swap. We will then send your script to your Script Swap partner, and vice versa, along with a code of conduct for good practice in reading and feedback.
We will also send you a template document, with suggested questions for the reader, and space to input responses. If you have your own questions you would like to ask, we will of course facilitate that.
Between you both, you can decide a realistic timeframe for feedback. When your responses are ready, we send them across. If you (or they) want clarity on any feedback, we can facilitate that.
To sign up, complete the form below with your details and information about what you would like feedback on, along with specific genre interests (if applicable). We will look to pair you with another writer as soon as possible.

Any kind of script, of any length. It can just be an idea, if you want to test an early thought with a writer. Or it could be a finished draft. Or unfinished. Or anywhere in between; anything goes.

No. But we will try and pair you with someone of a similar experience level, so you are both getting a lot out of the exchange.

We will give you a short guide, with suggested questions, so no need to worry. In signing up to Script Swaps, people recognise they aren’t necessarily getting a “professional” opinion. However, your opinion is still valuable, as a first reader.

Everyone is welcome. If there is anything we can do to help you be at your best during your Script Swap, or anything you would like us to tell your anonymous partner, let us know in your submission.

Script East Midlands can’t guarantee that your partner’s feedback is right (it is just their opinion), or useful. Signing up to Script Swaps means you accept that. However, if any interaction feels inappropriate, we will be there to listen. If you would like to share the same script with a different partner, let us know, and we can facilitate that.

Yes, that’s fine- we will look to pair you, anonymously, with a new person each time, unless requested otherwise.

Yes, if you have taken your script to at least a second draft, then it will then be eligible for our Writers Group, to be heard out loud. To submit your new draft for consideration, go to the Writers Group page.

This is to allow readers to feel safe and supported in what might be a new experience for them. Getting feedback can be a daunting experience, but so can giving it. The aim with Script Swaps is simple feedback with as few conflicts as possible.

Sorry, no. This is an initiative which is all about developing our regional network. We define the East Midlands as Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.

Sorry, no. Our Script Swaps are designed to be an exchange of scripts: reading a script is as useful as writing one, in terms of our own development. If you are curious about scriptwriting, why not sign up to our Script Club (on Patreon), which is full of creative writing tips.. Or, maybe join one of our beginners workshops?
